Wednesday September 19, 2007

Kyle talked last Wednesday night with an emphasis on fuel for our fire, and what is the catalyst to our passion like oxygen is to fire. This week we’re digging a little deeper into the vortex that is theology and focusing on bringing that passion to our relationships, particularly our friends and people we meet.
Was there ever a person in your life that you really looked up to or aspired to be like? Conceivably it was an older sibling or classmate, maybe even a teacher or youth leader. Whoever the person was, there was an unarguable presence and character about them that attracted you. Maybe you liked the way they treated you or maybe they had all the cool possessions, perhaps they just took the time to talk to you and made you feel like you belonged. Unquestionably however, was that persons affect on you, you wanted to be their friend, you wanted to be around them and maybe even be like them. Jesus had that affect on people. People would come from different places and walks of life to see Him and get to know Him. They would freak out and get His attention by any means, look at Zacchaeus climbing thee old sycamore.
How can we bring this excitement and passion to other so they can get to know Jesus. Last week was about getting excited ourselves and this we’ is bout “brinin’ the noise, halla at ya boy.” We’re looking at Jeremiah 23:29
29"Is not My word like (A)fire?" declares the LORD, "and like a (B)hammer which shatters
a rock?
How can we get God’s love to spread like a little pair of spandex on a big biker? The truth is that it could be different depending upon where we go. Think about this, put on some spandex, and we’ll see you Wednesday night. God Bless, Paul Maloney

I really like how this lesson compares Jesus to people you really look up to. I think sometimes, Jesus can be portrayed as a really serious person, but in this lesson it really shows that everybody loved him and they were attracted to his light. I also think that the role models you look up to can be the oxygen to your fire, and hopefully we as leaders will keep their flame going.

Hey,
I really liked this talk because as I was reading it I was thinking of that one person and that made me think that maybe the girls will share who that is for them and even though it may sound small I think it will be a big step.

I really like this talk because as I was reading it, I continued to think about that one special person in my life that I have always looked up to and wanted to be like. It reminds me that this is the type of person I want my girls to look up to, and hopefully I can try to be that person for them. It shows that God can be portrayed in many different ways, showing his light not only through the Bible, but through people who are living out his Word. I feel like this talk is going to be a great way to spark some meaningful discussions in small group! See you all on Wednesday!

I really like this lesson, mainly because I can relate to the very beginning...I think that the kids will be able to relate as well. The kids will be able to see Jesus in others, and hopefully let others see Jesus in them.

I really think this is a good topic. Like the other leaders, as i was reading through the talk, i immediately pictured the people in my own life who i look up to. This made the topic realy feel relevant to my life and i think it will feel the same way for my girls. It creates a picture in your head of why Jesus drew people and what it must have felt like to want to be with him. i think my girls will really be able to dig into this discussion.

i think its always really cool to have a friend that inspires you to follow jesus. the church is all about community and the relationships you share with another. This relates back to how jesus wants us to be for another which will be good for small groups especially on the second week.

Hey,
I think it's always important to have someone that helps you along and helps you feul your fire. For me my small group is a great group of guys that I can see Jesus working in them and rubing off on me. I really like this talk because i could relate it to my own life.

I liked this talk alot because I thought that it was very easy to relate to, and like everyone else said, as I was reading it was easy to think of someone who I look up to in my own life. I think that this will be really easy for my girls to grasp and create great discussion in my group.

I think its so cool how Jesus is our perfect model to look up to. He was/is (which is the correct tense?) absolutely perfect. Role models are everywhere these days and not all of them are so good. I'm excited to hear who my girls look up to tonight and why they look up to them. I already have somebody in mind who is still one of my biggest role models today and i'm looking forward to tonights lesson.

peace out

I like the idea of introducing romodels and talking about them espicially at that awkward age where everyone's looking for one! It will be interesting to talk with all the girls about that and get their ideas on spreading God's love...
See you soon, Anna
